Aidan Kane completed a B.A.[Mod] degree in economics and a Ph.D. at the University of Dublin, Trinity College. He has been at the Department of Economics NUI, Galway since 1994. His major research interest to date has been the political economy of historical Irish public finance, with a particular focus on the path of fiscal policy since Independence, the constitutional/institutional framework for fiscal policy, and on the construction of datasets for the periods before which the national statistical authorities provide data i.e., pre-1950s. Dr. Kane is also pursuing a research interest in the economics of technological change and in particular in the political economy of science, technology and innovation policy in Ireland. He is a former Director (2002-2006) of the Centre for Innovation and Structural Change (CISC) at NUI Galway. He also pursues an interest in the application of web technologies to teaching and research.
