Dr. Ruvin Gekker obtained a diploma in economics at Moscow State University in 1971 and Ph.D. from the University of California at Irvine in 1987. He has taught at Irvine, at York University, Toronto and at the University of Wales, before joining NUI, Galway in 1999. Dr. Gekker's research interests include social choice and public social theory, theoretical welfare economics, applied game theory, the economics of planning, transition economies and the Russian economy. He has published papers in The Journal of Economic Behavior and Organization, Economics Letters, Mathematical Social Sciences and The Journal of Economics/Zeitschrift fur Nationalokonomie. He has acted as referee for most of these journals, as well as for The European Journal of Political Economy and The Journal of Economic Theory.
